Custom Closet Filled With Clothes

Organize By Category

Now that you’ve emptied your closet it’s time to get organized! Just like we mentioned in our guide to designing a custom closet, it’s not a bad idea to organize your closet based on which seasons you’ll be wearing those clothes in. It will also make it easier to store those clothes when you won’t be needing them. Grouping these clothes together now can take the headache out of finding the right place to store everything when you’re all done. This will also give you an idea of which articles of clothing you want to keep, and which you want to throw out.

Consider Some Additional Storage

Once you’ve got the heavy lifting out the way it’s time to consider adding some additional storage options to your closet. If you’ve got a walk-in closet you’ll likely have plenty of space to work with, but even a small reach-in linen closet can be optimized to provide maximum use.

For a walk-in closet, we’d recommend shelving units & storage racks that are easy to assemble and fit the overall aesthetic of your home. These can be small enough to fit into whatever available space you may have, and provide great storage options. This also couples well with a corner storage cabinet or vanity that can be used to store smaller items in one place. These provide excellent places to store jewelry, watches, and other small accouterments without having to worry about them becoming lost.

If you’ve really got some extra room to work with you might also consider a clothing wrack. This is a good place to store jackets and winter clothing without having to worry about taking up extra room. It’s important to remember to use hangers that are strong enough to avoid having to deal with a bent up coat hanger.

On the other hand, if you have a reach-in closet there are several options available that will still give you an organized closet. As we’ve mentioned before, wall hooks and wall mount shelving are a great idea and can be affordably procured. There’s also some easy behind the door options that easily be found on Amazon. Of course, adding a sliding door can also help to add some additional space.

One other idea is purchasing some hanging storage options. These are an affordable way to organize your clothes and are great for keeping shoes and boots off the floor and out of your way. You could even buy a few of them to ensure your closet is properly organized. This works well with the addition of a small bookcase or dresser that can offer some handy cabinets and shelves without taking up too much space.
